What will happen to Faith & Lucky? They are all alone in a pet shop cage. These sweet labradoodle puppies can only wait for someone to fall in love with them and take them to their forever homes. Their journey is recounted by the people who rescued them and the puppies themselves. It is a story full of surprises, giggles, tears and love. Do their names hold a clue to a happy ending?
One grey morning, two puppies found themselves all alone. In a cage. In a pet shop. In a town on the Gold Coast, in south-eastern Queensland, Australia. All of their brothers and sisters had gone to forever homes. They were the last two left. They were sad and lonely, but glad to be able to cuddle up and smell each others' familiar smell; feel each others' familiar warm curly fur and wet nose.
At this point, the tall handsome shaggy black dog paused.
He put his head on his paws.
He said, 'You might think that this was the beginning of a 'happily-ever-after' story,
but our uncertainty had only just begun.
At the time, I felt like the luckiest dog in the world.
But that didn't last long.
We could hardly believe how lucky we were! Amanda must have thought so, too, because she named me Lucky and my sister Faith. Such a pretty name for Sissy! We sat on the back seat of Amanda's car and wondered where we were going. That's the way it is with us dogs. You get in the car and hope that where the human is taking you will be a good and safe place.
The gentle black dog paused again.
He said, 'Now you would think that this is the end of the story.
Faith and I only knew we were safe and loved at this point.
We revelled in the feeling and forgot all of our worries.
Lauren and Misha were as kind and loving as they could be.
But we were not at the end of our journey.'
His very kind eyes told me there was still some sadness yet to come.
I put my head down on my paws and waited for him to gather his thoughts and emotions.
